E. Marinella - Tie makers to Kings

For more than a century the small tie shop has existed in the heart of Naples. It has provided some of the finest ties the world has seen, to an ever growing famous clientele of Kings, Presidents and titans of industry. A couple of its well known customers are Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, Francois Mitterrand, Gianni Agnelli, Aristotle Onassis, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Charles of Spain, Albert of Monaco, and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall.

A few of the well known customers of E. Marinella.

When the first shop opened it's doors in Naples in 1914, they had done everything right - a shop placed on a promenade frequented by the city's noblemen, ties made by English silks that were quite popular at the time, and a collection of British styled shirts.

One of the original tie patterns from the shop's earliest days, alongside a customer ledger.

They suffered through two wars - WWI and WWII - which wasn't all smooth sailing. They also survived the casualization of the western world. Perhaps the key to survival was rising demands in the east? Today the business has expanded into several other areas, such as fragrances, clothing, shoes and much more. The president of the company is the 3rd generation to run it - Maurizio Marinella. He is now joined by his son Alessandro, who will work to keep the legacy going. We are all curious as to what the future has in store for this iconic maker.

In the workshop on top of the original shop ties are still made by hand, as they have been for the past 100 years.
